Work With Me

Putting You In The Picture

Creating a bespoke work of art is a step by step process. Through good communication, we'll work together as a team to create the heirloom of your dreams!

I love people and I love to paint their stories. I fully appreciate that commissioning a portrait or landscape can be daunting. Let’s face it, by commissioning me you are entrusting me to interpret your thoughts and wishes to your satisfaction.

I firmly believe that commissioning a painting should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all involved (not just for me!) and so I will involve you in the creative process as much as possible, from concept to delivery.

If you are interested to have a no-obligation chat about your ideas please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I will gladly send you some more information. In the meantime, please see below for the most frequently asked questions….

  • How long will it take? I paint with oils and these can take a long time to dry so a general time line for commissioning a painting with me can take anywhere between three to six months depending on how busy my schedule is.

  • How much will it cost? An original work of art in oils is something you invest in, providing years of enjoyment, and even something you may pass on to future generations! Commissions vary in price depending on size, number of figures and complexity. As a guide the starting price for a single pet portrait (A4 size) will be £280 but I can give you a more accurate indication of price once we start chatting and I know more about your project. (Without obligation of course!)

  • Do you paint posthumous portraits? Yes I do, as an artist, honouring the important people who have shaped and loved us with a portrait is a great privilege. A posthumous portrait is a beautiful and loving way to celebrate someone’s life. It doesn’t need to be serious or sober, depending on their personality it can be dynamic and vibrant. Read more about posthumous portraits.

  • Do you offer a framing service? Yes I do. I can either arrange to get the piece framed for you or give you framing advice. Please allow extra delivery time if I am arranging the frame. Framing would be at an additional cost.

  • How do you take payment? Payment can be made by bank transfer. Please email me for bank details.

  • Can you show how the art will look in situ? Yes this is highly recommended. If you send me a photo of your space, using one of my clever little apps I can create a preview of how the piece will look in your furnished space. It’s also an excellent way to view how it might look in different settings.

A sharp intake of breath, then a shriek of surprise. Amazement and wonder, a few moments of speechlessness followed by deep gratitude. Occasionally, happy or sentimental tears lead to laughter or nostalgia.

These are just some of the emotions to expect when giving a bespoke piece of art but always, always, always there’s a whole lot of love.

“Jenny, I am writing to thank you so much for the wonderful ‘experience’ you provided to me throughout the commission to paint our children.

You really do give a first class and unique offering because, at the outset, I had absolutely no idea I would be part of the process, that I would be called upon for valued input and fundamentally, that it would be a daily process of such fun and enjoyment!

In hindsight this was hugely important and valuable because I was ‘in tune’ with the painting from start to finish and my understanding of it grew with each stage. Like you, I developed an attachment with the painting from the outset and for me this made it a much more wonderful gift to give to my wife than if I had not had much involvement.

The defining success for us is that you captured both their looks and their individual personalities which jump out from the canvas. ”
